What MK Money Lifeline do
MK Money Lifeline (MKML) is an independent debt advice service for anyone in need in Milton Keynes. It has operated as a charity since 2012, delivering face-to-face advice and practical support as well as telephone support, within the Milton Keynes community.
Advice is provided free of charge, is impartial and totally confidential. We exist to focus within Milton Keynes on the prevention or relief of poverty, and the relief of those in need by reason of financial hardship or other social and/or economic disadvantage.
From 2021 to 2022 we assisted 90 separate clients with an overall debt of close to £1m. Clients are given face to face advice on an appointment basis and in most cases MKML negotiates directly with their creditors.
Casework can take several months to complete dependent on client circumstances. At weekly drop-in sessions, where advice is given to members of the local community on a one-off basis, we typically see 3-4 clients per session.
